There's so many music genres that blur together, like an impressionist painting. Country morphs into rock. Rock morphs into classical. Folk becomes jazz. What is ART POP? The distinguishing characteristic for me is the use of orchestral instruments, like a soundtrack for a movie, in a short popular song. Although the Beatles used a string quartet on their early Paul McCartney song "Yesterday" and George Martin brought in classical elements, it's not the same as today's Art Pop. Listen to Rosalia's recent LUX and see what you hear. David Byrne is now working with the Ghost Train Orchestra and even though it's the same style he wrote during his days with Talking Heads, it has a new sound as he incorporates the vintage jazz of the Ghost Train Orchestra. Listen and find out.
