Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen is an extraordinary poet and singer-songwriter, born in Canada in 1934. His first concert tour in 1970 took him to the Isle of Wight in front of 600,000 people. His most recent world tour took two years to complete from 2008 - 1010. We hear his early songs as sung in 1966-71 by Judy Collins "Suzanne", "Story of Issac" and "Joan of Arc". From the 1970 Isle of Wight we hear "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye". He retreated to a Buddhist monastery in 1996 and when he emerged he recorded "Ten New Songs" in 2001 and we hear "By the River Dark". We end our program with two songs from his 2009 "Live in London" at the O2 Arena, "Tower of Song" and "Democracy is Coming (to the U.S.A.)".
