Frank Zappa was born in 1940, the same year as John Lennon and grows up listening to the same American R&B for inspiration, along with classical composers Varese and Stravinksy, among others. We hear his music from the 1960's and 1970's from "Freak Out" through "Shiek Yerbouti", his solo recordings and with his band the Mothers of Invention. Frank Zappa recorded over 60 albums in his lifetime. After his death in 1993 from cancer, he was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
