David Bromberg, American roots and blues singer-songwriter and guitarist An Interview with David Bromberg - He talks about his early career and working with George Harrison, his current projects and his view on music. We hear songs from "Wanted Dead or Alive" featuring Jerry Garcia and his recent Grammy nominated album "Try Me One More Time" and "Use Me".
I had a conversation with David Bromberg recently when he performed at Bethel Woods. He went to Columbia Univ. to be a musicologist but ended up down in the folk clubs of New York’s Greenwich Village, playing electric and acoustic guitar, dobro, fiddle and mandolin on albums with Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, the Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, Bonnie Raitt and more. He was playing at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival when he got an unexpected chance to play a solo set. There were 200,000 people in the audience and he had them all in the palm of his hand. He was offered his first contract with Columbia records and George Harrison co-wrote a song and played as his sideman on David’s debut album in 1971. His 2007 “Try Me One More Time” was a Grammy nominee for the Best Traditional Folk Album. His most recent album “Use Me” features his talented friends as co-songwriters and producers, including Dr John, Levon Helm, Linda Ronstadt, John Hiatt, Keb’ Mo’, Widespread Panic, Los Lobos, Vince Gill and Tim O’Brien.
