Van Dyke Parks has a unusual composition style, marked by west coast rock, classical orchestra arrangements, calypso,and early 20's Tin Pan Alley songs. He is a brilliant and influential musician with a long history in contemporary culture. From his most recent release we hear "Dreaming of Paris" from "Songs Cycled". His collaboration with Brian Wilson took his career to a new level. From the Beach Boys 1966 "Smile" we hear "Heros and Villans", "Child is the Father of the Man", and "Surf's Up" composed by Brian Wilson with lyrics by Van Dyke Parks. Orange Crate Art from 1995 by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks "Palm Tree and Moon", "My Jeanine", and "Movies is Magic" In a rare LIVE performance in Santa Monica CA in 1998, we hear Van Dyke Parks "Cowboy (Live)" from "Moonlighting (Live At the Ash Grove)" on Rhino/Warner Bros. Finally we hear from his most recent release in 2013 Songs Cycled "WALL STREET", two people falling from the World Trade Towers as it burns and their final moments, an unbelievably beautiful and sweet song.
